FRiENDi mobile Oman wins Sustainability Award 2019

A study was undertaken by Elias Maalouf, VP Technology, to elaborate on the options to reduce the ‘single-use’ plastic in SIM production as well as recharge cards, awarding him the Sustainability Award of 2019. People who were nominated as Stars were also invited to a unique event in London and had access to Richard Branson and the family to make them feel extra special.

The terms and condition plastic label removal acceptance was replaced by a pack tear up section with the terms and conditions printed on the package. Quarter sized SIM cardholders have now replaced previously larger card and the plastic packaging of the recharge cards is no longer used. The changes resulted in eliminating the ‘Single-use” plastic entirely from SIM packs and recharge cards. The outcome showed a staggering 20 ton of estimated reduction in plastic production per year. Based on the successful results, this initiative is now looked towards being implemented in other similar businesses.

In the times of ongoing global crisis, Elias’s story has initiated a widespread impact that is motivating, consistent and progressive. Elias’s dedication and positive focus is a story that is not just inspiring, it is the story about his passion towards making the world a better, healthier place.
